Hi, Britain is consumed by the EU Referendum. It is on television every night.
This evening, the EU President Donald Tusk said an exit by Britain will result in the break-up of Western political civilisation. We can read all sorts of things into that, starting with fear for his job. But how can this be? According to the EU, Britain has been an insignificant voice, one with little power. It is after all an island nation. I think that man has ignored what happened when his namesake, currently running for US President tried to shove his oar in, so to speak. How can I say this politely? Please do not preach to us.
“The EU is for the people.”
Normal people do not speak like that. It is politician-speak. The British people fear being overrun. If those in Newcastle, a salt-of-the-earth heartland think so, then it is happening. (TV News interview last night). The trouble is that politicians are making their first nationwide forays into speaking to normal people, rather than activists. They should have done the chats first, before making up their minds.
The majority cry for Britain to close its borders. Mr Cameron was wrong when he said that refugee camps would move from Calais to Kent. As Lord Hill, who sits in the House of Lords, explained, Britain has had an agreement about borders with France since before the establishment of the EU. Of course we have. I feel sorry for a man who has to take a hundred decisions a day.
So, after the vote, what do we want first?
Please close our borders except to decent people who have skills that we need.
